Social Media & Mobile Lead Analyst, Virgin Australia, Brisbane, Queensland 2010 - Present
I oversee all commercial mobile, tablet and social media initiatives for Virgin Australia Airlines. This includes the management of the Virgin Australia mobile website and mobile applications, as well as facilitating the design and development of social media applications and services. I am also responsible for directing mobile, tablet and social media strategy at Virgin Australia, in addition to leading user experience design across these channels.
I liaise with executives and stakeholders from across the business to understand individual departmental requirements, and collaborate with individuals from these areas to produce innovative mobile and social media tools that are aligned with the organisation’s strategic directives. I am also responsible for maintaining relationships with internal and third party providers, and ensuring that the work they produce is delivered on time, within budget and to the highest of standards.
Within twelve months of commencing my role, I was able to demonstrate substantial increases in traffic (more than fifty percent) as well as a forty percent increase in revenue across the mobile channel. The Virgin Australia mobile website has, under my direction, also received a number of favourable reviews including being named Australia’s best mobile website by B&T.
Challenge Session Leader, SoMe Ideas, Brisbane, Queensland 2010
SoMe Ideas is an initiative that is sponsored by the Young Networks Foundation. It aims at exploring ways in which social media can generate new ideas for social and environmental change, with a focus on implementing these ideas in the contemporary workplace. Each of the SoMe Ideas Challenges are task specific. Each challenge session is conducted across an intensive six week period and includes both direct instruction and online support.
My role as session leader required that I facilitate training and present strategies, prototypes and programs for each challenge solution. This included instruction on existing social media and software tools, as well as providing insights into how these might be best applied to corporate settings and solve existing business challenges.
Research Coordinator, The University of Queensland, Brisbane, Queensland 2010
Within the Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology I was responsible for coordinating a research grant funded by the faculty in order to “Refine and evaluate strategies for effectiveness in team learning for members of cross- cultural and cross-discipline teams within a first year course in web design.”
As the coordinator for this group, I liaised with both researchers and course teaching staff concerning the best practice for integrating research aims into course criterion. I also acted as a research aid for this group contributing to the theoretical research supporting the project.
Academic (Principal Tutor), The University of Queensland, Brisbane, Queensland 2009 - 2010
Working within the School of Information Technology and Electrical Engineering, I tutored courses in web design and advanced human-computer interaction. These were first year and honours courses respectively.
This role required that I instruct students on web development and design principles, in addition to human centred interaction methods and paradigms.
As the principal or senior tutor for these courses, I was also responsible for coordinating course teaching staff, marking, and drafting assessment criteria.
Registry Coordinator, Canadian Embassy, Beijing, The Peoples’ Republic of China 2005 - 2006
The Registry Section is responsible for the creation and management of all visa applications within the Immigration Department at the Canadian Embassy in Beijing.
Within my role as Registry Coordinator, I was responsible for managing a team of forty staff members from a broad range of cultural backgrounds. Along with managing day to day workflow within the department I was also responsible for facilitating all staff development and training within my section. Within this role I created an online interactive training manual for the department and instructed all members within my team on web design and development tools so that this manual could be continually updated.
